Modern artist Bae Nam Ju will be invited to the 2024 Gallery Mac Focus, the first special exhibition to be held at Gallery Mac.
Bae was born in Korea in 1985 and paid attention to the summary of 'the middle that does not belong anywhere' through flat painting work from the beginning of his work.
The artist presents a work that visualizes 'uncertainty', the nature of 'intermediate', which denies a binary confrontational situation.
He is fascinated by the concept of 'intermediate' that cannot be clearly defined, such as happiness and unhappiness, death and birth, inside and outside, light and darkness, and the middle of reality and ideal, and sets it as an 'alternative ideal world' and solves it through painting.
This artist's world of work is similar to the deconstructive thinking of French philosopher Jacques Derrida. The philosopher talks about a world that cannot be defined by the dichotomous thinking of essence and non-essence.
Therefore, Bae is constantly researching and contemplating the contradictory behavior of visually defining and implementing this 'uncertain ideal world' to expand the concept of work and the conversational methodology.
This individual exhibition, '°¡º¯±â¾ï(Variable Memory)', expresses the story of the uncertainty that the artist has been contemplating. In the exhibition, it was visually expressed that the world we perceive is not fixed and immutable, but that we are interacting with various elements.
Through this exhibition, visitors will expand the meaning and interpretation of the artist's work and the uncertain interaction between the work and the audience.
The exhibition will be held at Gallery Mac, located in Haeundae-gu, Busan, until April 5.
